Walking with the last two Northern White Rhinos

While in Ol Pejeta on safari, I was extremely fortunate to have a once in a lifetime opportunity to spend time walking with Najin and Fatu, and putting them to bed during the Sofa Safari edition for Ol Pejeta Escapes which aired live on Facebook. These two gentle giants are the last of their kind. They are a mother, Najin and her daughter, Fatu. There is a major effort to save the Northern Whites by harvesting their eggs, fertilising them in Italy and transporting the fertilized embryos back to Kenya where they will be placed in surrogate southern white rhinos in Ol Pejeta conservancy.

I learnt so much about the differences between northern and southern white rhinos. I heard about the road to their extinction and what has been done to save the species. Sudan, the last Northern White Rhino died in Ol Pejeta in 2018, a tragic loss for the world.
